Seit 3. April besuchen 14 indische Schüler und Schülerinnen aus Neu-Delhi das Gymnasium bei St. Michael. Mit großer Spannung wurden sie von ihren Gastschülern empfangen und die Freude war riesig. Kennengelernt hatten sich die Schüler schon beim Besuch der deutschen Schüler im Oktober und November 2017. Und nun konnte endlich der Rückbesuch stattfinden. Die erste Woche verbrachten alle Schüler in ihren Gastfamilien und danach begannen die offiziellen Programmpunkte. Dazu gehörten unter anderem ein Besuch des Audi-Werkes, eine von Azubis durchgeführte Werksführung durch Bausch und Ströbel, ein Ausflug nach Stuttgart ins Mercedes-Benz Museum und ein Ausflug in die Universitätsstadt Tübingen mit einer Stadtralley und eine Stocherkahnfahrt.
Indien und Deutschland – kann da denn ein Austausch funktionieren, ohne dass es zu großen Schwierigkeiten kommt? Ja!! Es funktioniert! Mit einer großen Portion Verständnis für alle kulturellen Schwierigkeiten, mit dem Mut, Neues zu entdecken und mit der Erkenntnis, dass Globalisierung nur gewinnbringend ist, wenn man versucht den anderen zu verstehen und von seiner Welt etwas mitzunehmen.
In der letzten Woche ist noch ein Ausflug nach München geplant, genauso wie eine Führung durch die Kunsthalle Würth, ein Orgelkonzert in der Kirche und ein ganzer Tag in der Natur im Wald. Am letzten Abend werden die indischen Gäste und die deutschen Gastgeber zeigen, welche schauspielerischen, musikalischen und tänzerischen Fähigkeiten sie haben. Mit der Überreichung der Teilnahmeurkunden und einem großen gemeinsamen Fest enden die vier Wochen, die voller schöner Erlebnisse waren. Die bevorstehende Trennung wird sicherlich einigen sehr schwer fallen, aber wer weiß: vielleicht gibt es ja mal ein Wiedersehen.

Practicing and Experiencing Globalisation
14 Indian students have been staying at the Gymnasium bei St. Michael since April 3rd.
Their hosts expected them with great excitement and when they finally met their Indian exchange Partners the atmosphere was full of joy. A first encounter took place in October and November of the previous year when German students were welcomed in Indian families and homes for four weeks. Now, finally, the return visit has come.
The first week of the stay was spent with the host families. After a week of Easter Break, school started and, along with it, the official itinerary. The agenda included a visit to the Audi plant in Neckarsulm, an interactive visit to Bausch & Ströbel company which was guided by trainees, a visit to Stuttgart and Mercedes Benz Museum as well as an excursion to Tübingen. Here the Indian guests had to solve a quiz on the history and architecture of that town and were taken on a traditional boat trip on Neckar river.
How is such an exchange programme between Indian and German students possible without the emergence of serious trouble? The answer is on hand: A big portion of mutual understanding – especially for cultural characteristics is required as well as the courage to discover unknown cultural territory. A fair understanding of the positive aspects of globalization can only be experienced if you are ready to immerse into another culture and take part of it back home.
The last week’s itinerary consists of an excursion to Munich, a visit to the Kunsthalle Würth – a gallery of contemporary art – an organ concert in the Church of St. Michael and a day in the forest.
In the function on the final evening Indian and German students are going to present their talents in dance, music and performance. They will also speak about their exchange experience and receive their certificates. It will be the culmination of a four-week stay. As in previous years, saying farewell will be certainly hard, but then it doesn’t have to be forever: Doors have been opened, there is always a chance to meet again!
